The claims

  1. The mind is a part

Your mind — the part that is conscious and uses language — is a part of you, not the whole.

  2. Feelings are yours

Your feelings are your responsibility. No one is making you feel anything.

  3. Positive purpose

All behaviours and feelings have positive purpose.

    • Core Transformation method · Practices

Asking a part what it wants, then what it wants from that, until it bottoms out in a state rather than an outcome.

  4. Feelings inform

Feelings carry information. They point at something your mind is not attending to.

    • Focusing — the classic six steps Eugene Gendlin method · Practices

Getting a word or image to fit a bodily felt sense, and waiting for it to shift. The root technique for most of this list.

  5. Feeling is doing

Feeling is something you are doing. On some level you are choosing it.

  6. Refusing the good

You are also choosing not to feel the good things — safe, loved, alright.

  7. Behaviour looks forward

It is never about what caused a feeling. It is about what the feeling is for. All behaviour looks forward.
